Fijileaks: Keep Calm and Nightingale On. We don't think they should lose their jobs. It was all in the spirit of Christmas, which went a bit too far, in insulting the dignity of the patients in their care.

SPECIAL ADVISER TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF ETHIOPIA, DR TEDROS ADHANOM GHEBREYESUS VISITS HEALTH FACILITIES

The Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in the country this morning and visited the CWM Hospital and the Valelevu Health Centre.

Dr Ghebreyesus, who is a candidate for the post of Director-General of the World Health Organization, expressed his delight at the opportunity to meet with senior health officials at the two hospitals.

Dr Ghebreyesus witnessed first-hand the kind of services provided at the hospitals here and some of the challenges faced in the sector.

“I met with the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health and discussed some of the challenges faced. Strengthening primary health care is vital and that is what the Fijian Government is doing. This will address major health problems in the country,” Dr Ghebreyesus said.

“Having 1000 nursing stations at the front line is very important because it’s through these nursing stations that health officials can reach out to the communities and teach people how to prevent the major non-communicable diseases.”

Dr Ghebreyesus said the Fijian Government’s policy in relation to primary health care and prevention is commendable. Source: Fiji Government
