Of course, he did not face the DEATH PENALTY, for he gave himself and other TREASONISTS IMMUNITY, which continues into the 2013 Constitution, except for his 'coup photo-copier' George Speight. His coup had FAILED. Looking back at the 1987 coups, the Eastern, Central and Northern native Fijians, with a handful of Western Traitor native Fijians, had conspired to ensure that Dr TIMOCI BAVADRA, a Western native Fijian was NOT elected Prime Minister of Fiji. Most of his TEN masked gunmen who seized Dr Bavadra and his Government were mostly from Rabuka's province. We are surprised that native Fijians from the Western Division did not chase Rabuka through market towns and narrow streets and alleyways, shouting, GET LOST, when he went West on the so-called LISTENING TOUR. In 1987, he claimed GOD whispered in his sleep to get rid of Dr Bavadra's Government. On 6 October 1988 he had promoted himself Brigadier-General, which was probably as close to GOD as he dared place HIMSELF

In a taped message to the Evatt Foundation on Human Rights in Sydney, Dr Timoci Bavadra:
"As was to be expected, the coup has polarised Fiji racially. The strength of Fiji's political and economic anatomy lay in multi-racialism. Today, the Indian people are cowed and afraid. Many look on Fijians as army supporters or informers. For them, silence is their only protection, or flight to another country. For the Fijian people, no other event in seventeen years of independence has raised their political consciouness so sharply. In six short months, they have been exposed to the best and worst of democracy - its capacity to change those who govern them for new leaders and its very fragility in the face of organised lawlessness. The fact is that the coup makers, in attempting to unite the Fijians against a common enemy, have left them more divided than ever. The division is political: Coalition against Alliance. It is regional: East against West. It is social: Chiefs against Commoners."
